Been tracking line movement on tonight's Oilers-Sens matchup and something's not adding up with the McDavid anytime assist pricing. Books across the board have him at -110 to record an assist, but Ottawa's powerplay is converting at just 24.1% efficiency over their last 15 games.

Here's what caught my attention: McDavid has 18 assists in his last 12 games, with 11 of those coming on the powerplay. Edmonton draws 3.2 penalties per game on average, and against Ottawa's penalty kill that's been shaky at best, we're looking at legitimate PP opportunities.

The Numbers Don't Match

Ottawa allows 4.8 shots per powerplay against, which ranks 23rd in the league. McDavid's been getting primary assists on 67% of Edmonton's PP goals this season. At -110, the implied probability is 52.4%, but the actual conversion rate based on opportunity and Ottawa's defensive metrics suggests this should be closer to -140.

Anyone else seeing this discrepancy? The 7:00 PM EST puck drop gives us about 3 hours to capitalize if the books haven't adjusted their models for Ottawa's recent penalty kill struggles.

You're missing the injury report completely. Nurse is questionable with an upper body injury and that changes Edmonton's entire PP structure. McDavid gets those primary assists because Nurse quarterbacks from the point - without him, they're running Bouchard who's been inconsistent on the man advantage.

Plus Ottawa just called up Sanderson from their AHL affiliate yesterday. Kid's been solid defensively and could get penalty kill minutes tonight. Books aren't sleeping on this, they've already factored in the lineup uncertainty.

Had a similar situation two weeks back when I was in Ottawa for the Flames game. Spotted what looked like a soft line on Tkachuk anytime goal at +165, figured the books missed his recent hot streak. Dropped $400 thinking I found easy money.

Turns out the books knew exactly what they were doing. Tkachuk had been dealing with a minor groin issue that wasn't public yet, and his shot attempts were down 40% from his season average. He played 16:42 that night but looked off his game completely, managed just 2 shots on net.

Point being, when McDavid assist odds seem too generous, there's usually inside information baked into the price. Maybe it's line combinations, maybe it's a minor injury concern, but MyStake and the other books have access to practice reports and injury updates we don't see until game time. I learned that lesson the hard way - now I trust the market more than my own analysis when the discrepancy seems too obvious.

Actually pulled the penalty differential stats for Edmonton's road games this season. They're averaging 2.8 penalties drawn away from home, not 3.2 like you mentioned. That 0.4 difference might not seem huge, but it translates to roughly 18% fewer powerplay opportunities over the course of a game.

Also worth noting that Ottawa's penalty kill has improved significantly since their coaching change three weeks ago. They've allowed just 3 powerplay goals in their last 6 games, which puts them at 16.7% efficiency during that stretch. The 24.1% season number is dragged down by their brutal October performance.

Your math on McDavid's assist conversion rate is solid, but the opportunity frequency is lower than expected on the road.

Books know McDavid better than we do. That -110 is priced correctly.

The line movement tells a different story when you dig deeper. Opened at -125 on Sunday, moved to -115 by Tuesday, now sitting at -110. That's not books missing something - that's sharp money coming in on the under side of McDavid's assist total.

Checked the injury reports from Edmonton's practice yesterday and Draisaitl was rotating between the first and second powerplay units, which only happens when they're planning lineup adjustments. If McDavid and Draisaitl aren't on the same PP unit, Connor's assist opportunities drop significantly since Leon's been his primary setup target on the man advantage.

The 24.1% penalty kill number for Ottawa is misleading because it includes their early season struggles with a different system. Since November 15th, they're killing penalties at 81.3% efficiency, which ranks 8th in the league over that span. Tonybet has been pretty sharp on these situational adjustments - their NHL lines usually reflect the most recent trends rather than full season averages.

Grabbed McDavid assist at -110 this morning, but only for half my usual unit size. The value might be there, but Ottawa's been playing spoiler role lately and these late season divisional games get weird. Sometimes the stats don't matter when teams are playing for pride.

Worth noting the refs for tonight - they've been calling 6.8 penalties per game this season, which is above league average. More penalties means more PP opportunities for both sides.

That -125 to -110 drop WinnipegJack mentioned is exactly the red flag here. When sharp money moves a McDavid assist prop that direction, it's not because they suddenly forgot he's Connor McDavid.

Ottawa's penalty kill has been sitting guys like Chabot for 2:15+ per PK this month, and their shot suppression on the man advantage has actually tightened up since the coaching change. The 24.1% powerplay efficiency stat is misleading when you factor in McDavid gets most of his helpers at even strength anyway - he's only converted 31% of his total assists on the powerplay this season.
